a. How do I find a donor?
b. How often can I feed from a donor?
c. Are there any safety issues?
d. What can I do to ease the hunger when I don't have access to a donor?
e. Do you have any advice for feeding techniques for sanguine vampires?

1) What is a Vampire?

A vampire can be described as a person who for one reason or another suffers a deficiency in spiritual or psychic energy that results in a 'hunger' or a need to obtain that energy from other sources. Typically a vampire can fall into one of three categories: pranic, sanguine and hybrid, although some communities do not accept or classify hybrid as an individual category. Pranic vampires are able to take that energy in a direct form from a human source. Sanguine vampires utilise the medium of blood in order to obtain and absorb the energy of another human. Whilst hybrids are a combination of the two - they can be pranic vampires with sanguine tendencies, or occasionally, sanguine vampires who occasionally feed through pranic means; usually subconsciously.

2) What is Nocturnal Embraces?

Nocturnal Embraces is a community for vampires, pranic, sanguine and hybrid, although our main focus is towards pranic vampires.

3) Do I have to be a vampire to be part of the community here?

No. We accept membership from vampire, donor and mundane alike provided that you are open minded and here to learn and discuss, not to cause trouble.

4) What types of Vampires are there?

The three most common are pranic, sanguine and hybrid. There are several other categories but these are not true vampires, but more humans who exhibit vampiric traits, role players and life stylers. For more information please take a look at the Vampire Classifications article.

5) Is it possible for a pranic vampire to turn sanguine for a time?

Yes. This has been reported to occur most commonly when the pranic vampire is too run down to feed normally. And/or when they are going through a difficult or stressful time in their lives.

6) Is it possible to be both pranic and sanguine at once?

Again, yes. Although there are some communities out there that state that this is impossibility, we believe that it is indeed possible. We recognise that for some it may be personal choice, and for others it may revolve around need, but either way, the possibility for hybrids is there.

7) How to sanguine vampires go about getting blood?

Via donors. I don't know the exact process of how to find a donor as I myself am not a sanguine vampire and thus have never needed to. However that is the main way for a sang to find a stable source of blood. Other ideas such as finding a substitute for blood to ease the cravings have been discussed elsewhere. For those of you seeking more information on sanguine vampirism I would advise visiting sanguinarius.org as they have much more information to offer than I.

8) Do you drink blood?

Personally, no. I am a pranic vampire. However there are some vampires, called Sanguine Vampires, who do feed on blood. They usually only need a small volume of blood, two teaspoons is one measurement I have heard, although it is commonly less, in order to absorb what energy they need from their human donor.

Blood in itself holds no nutritional or energy value. It is theorised by many however that the blood is simply a medium through which energy can be transferred from one person to the vampire. Sanguine vampires are those who find it easier, if not essential, to feed through this means being unable to 'tap' into another person's energy without the physical connection.

9) Am I a Vampire?

Do you think you are a vampire? There is no set criteria that has been laid out to define who is and who isn't a vampire. This is a question that takes much soul searching and questioning before an answer can be found, and no one person can give you the answer you seek. You need to find it within yourself.

Take some time investigating and learning about the vampire community. Talk to the people, read their stories and meditate on your own - you need to come to the conclusion yourself.

10) What is 'Awakening'?

An Awakening is the term commonly used to describe the time when a person starts to become aware of their vampire nature. It can be a tough time for the majority of people who go through it, emotionally and physically exhausting and a time full of doubts, stress and worry. But with guidance and support it is possible to move through it and into acceptance.

11) What age is the usual for people to realise they are a vampire?

The most commonly touted figures revolve around early to mid teens, although it is possible for people to awaken much later than that.

I myself awakened in my mid teens but took almost five to seven years to get through it and into some form of acceptance. However, the oldest age heard of has been in the mid 40's.

12) How long does an awakening usually last?

Since awakening is the process of becoming aware and accepting one's nature it is entirely possible for it to a lifelong process. Some people manage to work through it quicker than others, some people struggle with it for a much longer time.

Myself, I took almost five years to even start accepting who and what I was, which meant that many of my traits did not start to fully develop until after those first five years when I began to accept my needs and do something about it. I personally think that the awakening depends on the mind and attitude of the person experiencing it. The stronger you fight and the harder you deny, the longer it will last.

13) Is it possible for someone to never awaken to being a vampire and/or subconsciously deny it?

Completely. There are many people out there who are what we commonly call subconscious or unawakened vampires. These people have the same needs as any vampire but have either blocked the possibility from their minds, or never even considered it and their minds and bodies have remained closed. But they still need the energy in the same way an awakened vampire does and so they feed unconsciously on the people around them. There is little to no control over the process and they have no awareness as to what is happening.

14) Do you like being a vampire? Would you rather just be an ordinary human?

Personally I am happy being a vampire. I am me, and I wouldn't ever want to change that. However, there are downsides and many other vampires will tell you that they would gladly be a normal person. I will start hunting down some firsthand account from vampires within the community to add here.

15) Do vampires have any powers or abilities that humans don't?

Again, no. Not in a physical sense. Some people claim of heightened nocturnal vision, or heightened senses of smell or hearing. And others work on psychic abilities such telepathy and empathy; but these things have long been considered within the realm of human ability anyway.

16) How can I tell if someone is a vampire or not?

Depending on whom you ask you may get different answers for this one. On the whole, you can't. Vampires are normal people, and often times the live, act, speak, walk and dress like normal people. However, there are some who say that vampires can recognise other vampires - however I will leave that debate up to the individuals.

17) Where can I find a vampire?

All around you. Many vampires live perfectly normal live. You can't expect them to stick neon signs above their houses, or to rise every evening from their personal crypt in the local cemetery. However, there are some places that harbour more vampire kind than others. One such being Goth clubs and venues. The Goth scene attracts many vampires, partly for the reason that they are not going to get shunned and kicked there so much as anywhere else in modern society, another being a common attraction many vampires have with gothic elements and pastimes. However, not all Goths and Vampires, and not all Vampires will be Goths. I'm not.

If you want to find a vampire the best place to look is online, in one of the many vampire communities that are around. However, most do not tolerate time wasters or fools, so if you have anything other than a genuine desire to find out more about us, I would advise that you stay clear and find something else to obsess over.

18) I want to be turned - can you do it/how is it done?

The short answer is no. The reason is that vampires are simply born vampires. There is no way to turn a mundane or non-vampire into a vampire, nor is there any way to turn a vampire into a mundane. You either are one, or you are not.

19) Why won't you make me a vampire?

See the above question. It's not physically possible.

20) Are you allergic to crosses/sunlight/garlic/running water/[insert any other myth here]?

On the whole, no. Some vampires do report photophobia, and slight to moderate burning of the skin and/or discomfort whilst being out in direct sunlight. However garlic, running water, crosses and most others remain purely in the realm of myth.

21) Are you evil?

Nope. And I never want to be. In fact, you will find that a lot of vampires try for the other end of the spectrum and often use their affinity for working with human energy to try and heal and help mundanes through various energy healing techniques; reiki for example.

22) Do you kill/attack/injure/hunt people for food?

No. No. No. And no. No vampire will ever 'attack' a human to feed. Sanguine vampires commonly hunt out willing donors within their communities, pranic vampires tend to feed on ambient or group energy. It is considered unethical, and ill mannered for a pranic vampire to 'attack' anyone for energy; the equivalent of psychic rape really, and is discouraged within the community and there are serious legal implications for any 'sanguine' vampire who attacks a person.

23) Do you have fangs/white skin?

Only fake ones. Amongst the vampire life stylers it is common to see fancy dental work; however it is not the fangs that make a vampire a vampire. The same goes for white skin - many people have pale skin, and many others paint theirs white for fashion - it does not define a vampire.

24) You're all insane lunatics and I think you should all be shot.

That is your opinion. Kindly keep it to yourself and find somewhere else to harass. Everyone is free to follow their own path, and it is not fair for people to be expected to hide who and what they are in order to conform to the common 'norm'. If we want to be vampires we will be. Better for you to go look elsewhere for something to amuse yourself. If you hate us that much, why are you still here?

25) I am a vampire hunter and I am going to stake you all.

This is a community for serious people; role players are frowned upon and may be eaten without warning.

Slayers, like hunters, do not exist anywhere but in the minds of sad little people who have little better to do than spend their days trawling through communities and trying to stir up trouble. Go out, get a job, and get a life.

26) Is it true that vampires hate werewolves?

First of all, we use the term Therian, now werewolf. And secondly, no, there is no war, conflict or hatred between therians and vampires. Such things are the work of fictional stories, movies and songs not of the real world.

27) Are vampires immortal?

Nope. We live, age, get sick and die just like anyone else.

a. How do I find a donor?
b. How often can I feed from a donor?
c. Are there any safety issues?
d. What can I do to ease the hunger when I don't have access to a donor?
e. Do you have any advice for feeding techniques for sanguine vampires?

For answers to these questions and anything else regarding Sanguine vampires I advise that you visit sanguinarius.org for the information. I do not wish to withhold or deny information to our members, however in order to avoid legal issues I would like to refrain from encouraging or instructing people on methods of bloodletting, cutting, feeding or finding a donor with the intent to drink blood. I understand that this is an essential for many vampires but I am not in a position to offer information or advice on such at this stage. I am primarily a pranic vampire and it would be wrong for me to offer advice regarding something I know very little on. Thus I would like to refer you to a place that will be able to help you.
